Lakai Kudos - Buy them Shoes

You may have remembered that little piece on "How to Dress like Marc Johnson"? It seems that the designers liked it enough to include it in their Lakai Fall 2007 catalog in the MJ-3 section (page 15, lower right). We got a secret tradeshow picture of the said catalog page below. Pretty funny. Hey Bird, I'm working on a full on MJ Biography as well... it's gonna be hot.

Christmas in Uganda - Skateboarding Ambassadorship

Brian checked in with us again from Uganda. The work he's doing out there is pretty frickin' admirable. Talk about being a skateboard ambassador. The skaters look so happy on their new street course. Peep the pyramid they just finished building and be sure to read Brian's update below.

    Hello From Uganda,

I hope this finds you all well and enjoying your holidays,

I just wanted to send out some photos of our new park and let you know that
we started skating it last week. The first session went down on December
23rd and it was fantastic, it felt so good to skate the new cement and feel
the new curves and angles. The park is smooth and it keeps up a good flow
and the kids are learning it fast. They are really happy with it and
    skating hard.

I again thank all of you who have supported us up to now and those who have
written recently to offer help. I will let you know as soon as our NGO
application goes through, last week we finally got all of our forms signed
and recommendations from the right people. We are now just waiting for the
secretary at the NGO board to come back from holidays and then we will
    submit.

So I wish you all the best as the year comes to an end and good start to the
    coming one,

Thanks again for supporting skateboarding in Uganda,

    Brian Lye

SKATER OF THE YEAR: DAEWON SONG

Resident photog, BNG, was at last Friday's SOTY event at the Great America Music Hall in San Francisco. Below are some shots he got of the event! Good looking out Benjie- thanks.

From Thrasher's site: Daewon Song represents the best things about skateboarding... innovation, dedication, the hunt for new spots, and constantly teetering on the edge of on-board insanity. For over 15 years Daewon has amazed us with his unique approach to both tricks and terrain, and as his mind-melting mini-ramp part in Cheese and Crackers can attest, he shows no signs of slowing. There are only a handful of true legends in skateboarding and even fewer that seem to get better after 10 years as a pro. Daewon is one of them. His creativity and drive is overshadowed only by his fun-loving attitude and generosity. Thrasher magazine is proud to honor Daewon Song as our 2006 Skater of the Year.

MAC vs. PC - "I have to go, listen to some Emo."

Crail is linked, that's all I gotta say. Click on the sticker-laden "pc guy" to find out why.

    Gonz X Hosoi - NYC

    The Journal Gallery
in New York is having an open reception for the artwork of Christian Hosoi and Mark Gonzales tomorrow night (November 30). Artwork inspired by religious passages and skateboarding. Rad.

    Blessings from the Birdman

So Benjie was shooting at this event in SF with his SKATEORNOT credentials. Apparently, Hawk was tearing up the Vert Ramp (does that surprise you?) at the ICERAIR event. No stranger to philanthropy, Hawk helps out when he can with his Tony Hawk Foundation for events like these. Weeks before I joked with Benjie about getting the PROS to hold up our SKATEORNOT tag for a photo. Benjie came through big time with this photo of Tony. Apparently, Tony had heard of SKATEORNOT™?! We must be doing something right...
